Poquoson wildlife control tip of the month:

About Mole: Appearance, biology, life cycle, habitat, diet, behavior

A mole is a subterranean animal with very small ears and eyes. They are very well adopted for digging because they have very powerful front limbs with large paws. They are also very well adopted to underground Poquoson animal control environments because they can tolerate much higher levels of carbon dioxide then other creatures. You can find an area of bare pink skin on their snouts, and that helps them to detect scent and movement of the prey. An average size of its body can be from 2 to 20 centimeters. Their lifespan is usually 4 years, but they are known to live up to 6 or 7. You can find them in most parts of North America, Asia and Europe.

Their main characteristics are mole hills that can be found on almost every field or yard. Moles dig a lot of Poquoson pest control tunnels which serve as traps for earthworms. When an earthworm falls into a tunnel dug out by a mole, the mole will immediately run to it and catch it. Moles feed on invertebrates they find underground, but they also eat some nuts. Some are even known to eat little mice. They can paralyze their pray with a toxin in their saliva, so they can eat it later. Poquoson wildlife removal Worms caught that way are stored in special underground chambers and you can find up to a thousand earthworms stored that way. A mole needs to eat a lot to keep alive, almost the weight of their body each day. Stores of earthworms they built up over spring and summer keep them alive during winter.

Moles breed from February until May. A male mole will enter a foreign Poquoson animal trapping tunnel and produce a high pitched squeal which will attract a female. 42 days is the period of their gestation and they usually bear 2-4 young. 30 or 45 days after birth, young moles leave the nest and live as adult moles. They are solitary creatures and will fight if they find another mole on their territory. Moles live exclusively underground and can cause problems for gardener since they dig under the plans and destroy their roots. They are relatively safe in their burrows, the only time other animals hunt them is when they dig out a molehill, and that is when other mammals, birds or reptiles can catch them. Only Poquoson exterminator thing that can harm them in a burrow are humans, which dig them out or kill them with spades.
